Know how global warming affects our sleep

The effect of global warming is now being seen in our sleep as well. According to recent research by the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, our sleep duration is decreasing with increasing temperature. This is happening because of the increase in heat at night. According to researchers, an average person is losing 44 hours of sleep every year.

The research was done on people from 68 countries

This research has been done on 47,000 people from 68 countries. Scientists tracked the sleep of 7 million nights of these people with the help of wristbands. Scientists say that the temperature of the earth is increasing, due to which we will also lose some more precious moments of our sleep.

According to researchers, this sleep loss is happening a quarter more in women than in men. Also, twice as high in people 65+ and triple in people from low-income countries. In earlier studies, scientists examined the effects of climate change on mental health, heart attacks, suicides and accidents.

Scientist Kelton Minor says that tropical nights are disturbing the sleep of large populations. For example, an additional 46,000 people suffer from sleep loss when temperatures exceed 25 °C. Recently, the dangerous heatwave in India and Pakistan reduced the duration of sleep of crores of people.

Why do women have more sleep loss?

Researchers said in a research that the body of women cools down sooner before sleeping at night than men. Therefore, women are more affected when the heat rises at night. Apart from this, women also have more fat under the skin on average, due to which their cooling process slows down.

Talking about old people, they are sleepless at the night and because of the lack of good cooling facilities in poor countries, people there struggle with the heat.
